A tea vendor outside Nalasopara East railway station was filmed cleaning metal tea kettles with dirty roadside water, raising serious hygiene concerns among commuters and residents. Public demands for strict action, regular inspections, and improved food safety monitoring near railway premises have intensified.
The incident occurred opposite platform number 4 of Nalasopara East railway station. In the video captured by a passing citizen on a mobile phone, the vendor can be seen washing his large metal tea kettles using contaminated water pooled on the roadside.
Nalasopara is among the busiest railway stations in the region, with thousands of passengers using the station every day to travel to Mumbai for work. Many commuters regularly purchase tea from vendors and roadside stalls operating across the station premises during morning and evening hours.
Residents have raised concerns over the health risks associated with consuming beverages prepared under unhygienic conditions, especially during the monsoon season. They highlighted the increased possibility of waterborne illnesses such as gastroenteritis, cholera, and typhoid due to contaminated water exposure.
Following the circulation of the video, residents and commuters have expressed serious concerns over the lack of hygiene monitoring at food and beverage stalls near the railway station. Public demand for immediate action against the vendor has intensified.
The Food and Drug Administration and the Railway Administration have been urged to take strict action against the vendor. Citizens have also demanded regular hygiene inspections of all food and beverage vendors operating near the railway station to ensure consumer safety.
